Mid-Season Report 2025/26: Women's Team

With fresh energy and a new game strategy, the Berlin Irish Women* kicked off their preseason training in August. The goal was clear: to develop a faster, more dynamic attacking game that highlights the team’s strengths even more effectively. Training attendance was high, the atmosphere motivated — and it quickly became clear that the team was ready to take the next step together.

First League Tournament – at RC Leipzig in Leipzig on September 6th

The first tournament of the season immediately brought intense matchups.
In the opening game against Jena, we suffered a clear 7–27 defeat. But instead of collapsing, the team visibly grew closer. Against BSV, we delivered a hard-fought match and lost narrowly, 19–22. In the final game against Hallerfurt, the team showed what it is capable of — a decisive 22–10 victory rewarded the hard work and steady improvement throughout the tournament day.

In the end, we finished in 6th place. A result that initially felt mixed — but the learning curve was steep, and that defined the team’s mindset.

Second League Tournament – at BSV in Berlin on October 18th

The second tournament started promisingly. We secured a confident 12–5 win against the Berlin Bruisers. Immediately afterwards came a real thriller against the hosts, BSV, which we lost by only one try, 12–19. The remaining games were equally close. Against Hallerfurt, the final score was 5–10, and in the last match against BSV, we narrowly lost again, 12–14.

With 5th place, we didn’t reach our goal of finishing second in both tournaments — but the team showed great fighting spirit and improved from game to game.

Autumn Cup – at BSC in Berlin on November 1th

At the Autumn Cup, the focus was especially on our new players, who were able to gain valuable match experience. We lost the opener by the smallest margin, 15–17 against the Bruisers, but after that the team really switched on. We celebrated two 15–10 wins over St. Pauli and Hallerfurt, and in the final match against BSV, we delivered an impressive 29–12 performance.

This secured us 4th place — a strong result and, above all, a sign of how much depth and development potential our squad has gained.

New Additions

The Berlin Irish Women* squad continues to grow: Lara joined us in the summer, followed by Vick, Jill, and Hanna in the autumn. They integrated quickly, brought new energy with them, and strengthened the team both on and off the pitch.

Conclusion of the First Half of the Season

Even though we did not achieve the placements we aimed for at the league tournaments, the first half of the season was an important developmental step. We learned a lot, never let setbacks discourage us, and showed progress in every game. The new game strategy is starting to take effect, and the increasing squad depth is clearly noticeable.

The team is ready to step up even stronger in the second half of the season — with courage, teamwork, and the characteristic Irish spirit.
